Rees' interest and ability to understand and be attracted to architecture to paint and especially draw is a well known fact. His drawing themes are recognised in the Sydney Harbour, overseas travel, France, Spain, Italy and Tasmania series.

This is an early dated work illustrating the artists skill and dexterity in the use of the medium to add light and tone with differing pencil strokes and intensity revealing contrast through the composition.
