Biography
Born in Melbourne, 1959, daughter of australian painter Charles Blackman O.B.E. and writer Barbara Blackman. She spent an international childhood shuffled around Europe and Australia, London, Brisbane, Paris & Sydney. Christabel speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French and Valencian. She attended Alexander Mackie Art School in Sydney, attained a Diploma in Restoration of Easel Painting from Istituto per l’Arte e il Restauro, in Florence, Italy and later on a Masters Degree in Conservation of Easel Paintings from the Politecnical University of  Valencia.

She started painting as soon as she could hold a brush and from an early age was taken into her father’s studio to paint with him and sit as a model for many portraits.  She studied life-drawing for over a decade and has attended many courses in painting, printmaking, photography, etc.  Her father taught her a lot about painting techniques, and about the importance of the image and its unique language.  She has held several solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group shows.  She has won several art prizes and her paintings hang in collections throughout Australia and Europe.

Christabel has lived for extended periods of time in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, London, Paris and Florence.  In 1986 she moved to Valencia in Spain where she has lived ever since.. She is a keen traveller and returns frequently to Australia.  She has three children, Pepa (22), Miguelangel (18) and Gabriel (16).  Her studio is in a pine forest on the hills nearby Valencia where she works as an artist, writer and free-lance painting conservator, specializing in gothic and renaissance paintings.
