Biography
Janet has developed a lifelong passion with art from an early age
working in a broad range of media to achieve her ‘visual communication’
After gaining formal training with the Julian Ashton Art School and
tonal studies with Graham Inson (Sydney) she explored figurative
expression through sculpture at the Rhok Acadamie (Brussels, Belgium)
and more recently with Tom Bass in Sydney.
In the late 1990's Janet spent 3 years living, painting and travelling
throughout Europe. She frequented European museums and galleries to
study figurative works in major collections from the 19th and 20th
centuries, a focus she has continued to pursue on a number of occasions
since then. It was in this melting pot of figurative expressions that
Janet gained her greatest influences. From Degas and Vuillard's design
and patterning, to the effects Japanese art has on developing one’s
sense of space – these influences all contribute to her sense of
expression.
Janet was an inaugural member of ‘Art Perspectives International’,
established in Brussels. This group sought to connect artists from a
variety of cultures, backgrounds and influences, and enabled them to
exhibit together and exchange ideas and experiences. She is currently a
member of Portrait Artists Australia.
Janet has gained recognition and awards in all media; she also conducts
individual classes and workshops in a diversity of techniques.
Exhibitions of Janet’s paintings have been successful in both Europe and Australia and her work is in collections worldwide.
