Despite their relative youth, the two artists participating in this exhibition have already earned themselves an enthusiastic and widespread following in Newcastle . They paint their appreciation of the natural beauty of the region - the panoramic spectacle having particular appeal. Viewing a collection of their finest recent paintings at the one venue will undoubtedly be a rewarding experience for many devotees.![]() Acclaim for JOHN EARLE is not confined to his native city, since he has been included in the high-profile Wynne Prize Exhibition on several times but his accurately observed familiar local landscapes are a favourite amongst collectors. The stretch of coastline from Bar Beach to Merewether, Cowrie Hole, Newcastle Beach and the Bogey Hole all come under meticulous scrutiny and are well-served by his brush. Attention to detail and geographical accuracy are trademarks of Earle's style. ![]() Like Earle, ROD BATHGATE favours the brilliance of midday light and a traditional approach to faithfully rendering the landscape before him. But Bathgate is less obsessed with the minutae. More often his interest is in overall atmospheric effect and inviting foreground details (like his extraordinarily convincing rock pool shallows) which compel the viewer into the picture. His favoured subjects include Nobbys, Merewether, Bar Beach, Glenrock and the Bogey Hole. | ||||
