Born in Hammersmith in the UK, Steven admits that it was a career in painting that he originally sought when studying for his Fine Arts degree at Brighton College of Art in England.
"During my time at Brighton, I realised that I wasn't as relaxed with colours as I was with the concept of mass and I much preferred the physicality and stucture of sculpture. So ended my painting desire and this journey through clay began".
After gaining a BA in Fine Arts Sculpture, he embarked on four years of travelling exhibitions and releasing limited edition art deco and art noveau figurines and lamps, both in the UK and in Australia. In 1983, he elected to stay permanently in Australia.
