Matthew Perceval was born in Melbourne in 1945. He left Australia in 1962 for Europe to pursue a career in art. He lived and worked in the South of France from 1967-78 and in Paris from 1979-81. During this period he painted throughout Europe, England and North Africa. In 1981 he returned to Australia and settled in Newcastle with his family in 1982. Since that time he has painted and exhibited extensively throughout Australia.
