ABOUT THE ARTIST
Janet works and teaches from her studio and has painted professionally for over twenty-five years.
Janet has gained formal training with a Diploma in Figurative Art and Portraiture from the Julian Ashton Art School, Sydney, tonal studies with Graham Inson, Sydney, and later explored figurative expression through sculpture at the Rhok Academe in Brussels, Belgium.
Living, painting and travelling throughout Europe in the late 1990’s had a major influence on Janet’s work. This time was spent concentrating on European museums and galleries focusing on figurative paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries and contemporary images in other major collections. Degas and Vuillard's design and patterning, and the amazing effect Japanese art have on developing one’s sense of space and more recently, observing the use of texture and patterning whilst travelling through India and Asia, a combination of these influences all contribute to her sense of expression.
Exhibitions of Janet’s paintings have been successful in both Europe and Australia and her work is in collections worldwide. Janet was an inaugural member of ‘Art Perspectives International’, established in Brussels. This group sought to connect artists from a variety of cultures, backgrounds and influences, and enabled them to exhibit together and exchange ideas and experiences.
Janet was awarded the $7500 Watercolour-Works on Paper Prize in the 2005 Herald Sun Camberwell Rotary Art Show, with a charcoal portrait Oil, watercolour, pastel and charcoal are Janet’s preferred mediums; she has gained recognition and awards in all these media.
