PHILLIP POMROY - 'Country Life'

This is a collection of a variety of subjects. I am always looking and dreaming of a a subject or composition that will inspire me and capture other people's attention.

I am a traditional thinking person. If I had gone to art school, I may have become a more contemporary painter.

I love composing a painting, finding a spot, mixing the composition, light and colour. I will attempt most subjects - figurative or atmospherical. I like colour, not sultry looking visions. I am a studio worker. I like my own space and a beer at the end of the day.

The painting 'Fishermen Through the Fire' I enjoyed composing. It is humorous and a perspective challenge painting that comes forward towards you.

I like to paint a 'roll over' technique - come and have a look on Friday December 3 and I will describe what I mean. Works are of the Blue Mountains, coastal images, imaginative landscapes, still life and exploratory landscapes.

SHIRLEY BENNETTS - 'Whimsical Figures in Landscape'

Shirley Bennetts trained at Newcastle Technical College; Newcastle National Art School; Sydney Royal Art School; tutelage under Bill Cooper, Geoff Townsend and Mary Beeston.

Shirley has been involved in many forms of art, including pottery, lino printing, candle creating, story writing and illustrating self published, hand sewn miniature books, teaching all mediums, and now devotes the time to painting small and big at her home set in a rural environment.

With many years of experience and knowledge, this exhibition brings together 20 works on paper. Many of the paintings are from nature, placing a strong emphasis on whimsical figures. Watercolour, ink and oil/pastel create the mood that gives mystery to the painting story of the seasons and a real glimpse into our history, always mindful that the rhythm of music is married to the line quality of the painting.

Known as an International Miniature Artist, Shirley has exhibited in UK, Canada, USA.

Earlier this year she was invited to exhibit at the West Wind Gallery, Wyoming USA. Also to provide larger artworks with stories for the Hospice Waratah Exhibition titled 'Introducing the Book'.

A lino print 1/3 is with the special edition 1797-1997 at Newcastle Region Gallery. Paintings in all mediums are represented in private collections.

Shirley has had 14 solo exhibitions and many group exhibitions.

Whimsical Figures in Landscape is an exciting mixed media collection of major works from favourite themes - on view from 3 - 20 December at Cooks Hill Galleries. Come and meet the artist from 6pm Friday 3 December.
