Who are we? Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) is a. partnership between the University of Newcastle, Hunter Health and the business and general community.

An umbrella organisation for over 300 health and medical researchers, HMRI focusses its research in ten key areas including, asthma and immunology, cancer (breast, bowel, skin, leaukemia and genetics), premature birth, heart and lung disease. public health (ageing, health service delivery) and clinical trials.

You may have heard recently of the exciting world first procedure by HMR1 researcher Dr Suku Thambar, who took stem cells from a patient's hip and injected into his damaged heart. This world
