Arthur Boyd (b 1920 d 1999) 1935-36 Studied various night clauses at NGV School. Most of his study was undertaken within the family fold. His close association with his Grandfather Arthur Merric Boyd, himself a very well the techniques of oil painting. The war had profound effect on Boyd's work, drawing from him a series of piectures that expressed his great emotional turmoil. He came into contact with many other young artists such as Nolan, Perceval and Tucker, gleening much from these associations. 1959 He moved to London, exhibited with great success particularly at Whitechapel Gallery, and soon became one of Australia's most highly regarded artists 1971 Returned to Australia as Artist in Residence at ANU. Soon after this, he and his wife purchased Riverdale at Shoalhaven and Bundanoon. 1975 He presented several thousand works to NGA 1993 Made a gift to the nation of Riverdale and Bundanoon. AGNSW mounted a major retrospective of his work: paintings. prints, drawings and ceramics, which toured the Country in 1994 AWARDS REPRESENTED |
